Irish techno legend, Matador, today announced an eight-city North American tour for January 2018. Stops along the tour include Analog in Brooklyn, Flash in DC, Heart in Miami, Union in Los Angeles and more. He visits Flash in DC on Thursday, Jan. 11.
Matador is the chef turned international techno act that brings a unique flavor to the dancefloor — he started off his career at culinary school before working countless hours in the restaurant industry in Dublin. He’s since traded early mornings in the kitchen for late nights at the club.
His meticulous production style and singular live performances have catapulted him to the top ranks of electronic music auteurs. Even before being discovered by Richie Hawtin’s tastemaking M-nus label in 2011, Matador was pushing techno’s boundaries with a huge discography, that encompasses labels like Perc Trax, Cocoon Recordings, and Trapez.
The Dublin-born producer/DJ was awarded the Electronic Live Performer of the Year title in the 2016 DJ Awards and has gone on to become an ambassador for Richie Hawtin’s Model 1 Mixer, as well as start his own label, RUKUS, which releases music from the likes of Hot Since 82, Oliver Huntemann, SHADED, ANNA, and many more.
Some of Matador’s biggest tracks include his remix of Oxia’s classic ‘Domino’, as well as tunes that have come out on his own label like his original ‘Juniper’ and his collaboration with Felix Da Housecat ‘The Enemy’. His sound embodies an emotional approach to dance music featuring melodic leads, cinematic soundscapes, and a thumping low end.
Matador heads into the new year with an arsenal of emotive yet relentless, minimal-tech grooves for an eight-leg, non-stop trot around the states. See below for full tour schedule.
