New York City electropop duo Overcoats released Young, their debut album, last year, and the response was so great that the band released a special deluxe edition of the album, now available via Arts & Crafts. Overcoats return to DC to open Tennis at 9:30 Club on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Overcoats performed in DC recently, but their affinity for our city runs deeper than that! Singer-songwriter Hana Elion, one half of the group, hails from DC. She met JJ Mitchell in college and the two formed Overcoats, releasing their initial self-titled EP in 2015.

In a review for NPR Music, Bob Boilen hailed Young as one of the best albums of 2017.

“Overcoats’ Young is a record driven by ambition and passion, not craft. That’s not to say Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell aren’t terrifically talented singers and songwriters: What sets them apart is that I believe them. That the emotion in their harmonies and the space they give each other is filled with compassion. I believe their songs of loneliness and doubt,” Bob said.
