There are worse ways to spend Valentine’s Day than getting your face melted off by Sleigh Bells’ monster riffs and senses-assaulting light show in a very crowded 9:30 Club.
Vocalist Alexis Krauss and guitarist Derek Miller tore through roughly 16 songs, starting with “Blue Trash Mattress Fire” from Kid Kruschev, an EP released last year via their own Torn Clean label. Before long, they were into well-worn favorites like “Riot Rhythm” from 2010 debut album Treats. Indeed, in recent concerts, that first record has dominated the setlist with selections like “A/B Machines,” “Crown on the Ground,” “Infinity Guitars,” and the ever-popular “Rill Rill,” which closed the encore.
Along the way, Sleigh Bells hit a total of four new songs, adding “And Saints,” “Favorite Transgressions,” and “Rainmaker” from Kid Kruschev to the setlist.
Sleigh Bells’ appearance at 9:30 Club marked the end of their current leg of touring. They hit the road this summer as opener for a co-headlining tour with Weezer and the Pixies. Locally, that tour stops at Jiffy Lube Live on Sunday, July 22! Make plans to be there (and bring hearing protection).
