Allen Stone embraced the crowd with open arms and walked onto the stage with his five-piece band in a recent sold-out show at 9:30 Club, which had fans waiting for a night of soothing sounds from Stone.
With his fourth studio album, released in November, Building Balance, Allen has opened up about his personal life, inspired by family, his careers, highs and lows. It’s an album that explores how to find balance and keep it sustainable overtime. After almost a decade of making music, Allen found it amazing that he still can make music that fans will enjoy. This album tells the vulnerable side of Stone.
On Feb. 25 at 9:30 Club, Allen’s melodies and voice were able to transport you back in time to days of old and the beginnings of R&B. He showcased his soulful voice in “Consider Me” and in “Sunny Days.” He utterly filled 9:30 Club with smooth, sweet, and soul loving. He infused “Warriors” and “Sweaters” with funk-pop vibes that brought out the best dance moves within ourselves.

Between his love of cordless Dyson vacuums (they have to be cordless or else), marriage, and new son in his life, Allen was very excited to be back in DC. There was a special moment in the middle of the set where Allen shared an intimate moment. A fan proposed to his girlfriend where it all started — at an Allen Stone concert. Tears ensued all over the 9:30 Club.
Closing the night, Allen sung “Unaware” to the crowd, and the crowd sung back. It was a wonderful night, ending in very high spirits. You can see Allen Stone next in Boston on March 3.
