3 Stars Brewing Company tasting flight
Beer. Let’s get some local suds.
Last year, we did an evening DC brewery hike heading north from Fort Totten Metro Station and ending in Silver Spring.
With expanded hours for many of the DC breweries and the new Right Proper Production House in Brookland, we now tried a hike heading south from Takoma Metro Station.
What better way to kick off the weekend, then with a bit of exercise, adding in strategic beer stops to keep you hydrated.
When you visit the breweries in the NE quadrant on foot, it mitigates the need for a designated driver and gives you the chance to see some of the DC neighborhoods you likely don’t visit often, if at all.
Completed successfully on Friday, June 10, 2016.

3 Stars Brewing Company – The first stop on the hiking jaunt, 3 Stars, continues to update their space to please patrons. They recently enclosed the tasting/serving room into the climate controlled Urban Farmhouse Room. Although, I liked the open space with picnic tables from before, given DC’s extreme temperature fluctuation, this gives them more flexibility on when to open. I was slightly disappointed that most of the heavy beers on the board were not available, so I tried a couple of the newer sours, the Pineapple Dissonance and the Ricky Rosé. The Ricky, in particular, was refreshing and easy to drink, and not too sour. And was for a limited time only. The bright red color almost made you believe you weren’t drinking beer.
Best beer tried: Ricky Rosé (Sour, ABV 6.7%)
Hellbender Brewing Company – Always a nice space to sit and have a beer. They have TVs, so you can watch a game, and interesting maps of little known parts of DC (like Kingman Island). The North by Northeast Nitro Stout was smooth and cascaded in the glass like Guinness.
Best beer tried: North by Northeast Nitro (Nitro Stout, ABV 5.1%)
Right Proper Production House and Tasting Room – See the post from a previous visit here. This time, the production area was open for patrons while a comedian did a stand-up routine. We just missed it however, as they were taking things down. We arrived late, but in time for last call.
Best beer tried: Baron Corvo (Biére de Garde, ABV 7%)
Is there a better way to enjoy a nice evening?
