It’s the 40th anniversary of a seminal alternative rock album — Fables of the Reconstruction — but unfortunately, the music’s creators aren’t active to celebrate it on tour.

Enter the actor Michael Shannon and guitarist Jason Narducy, who recruited some other musicians to from an REM tribute act that people truly love! In a recent visit to 9:30 Club, Shannon, Narducy, and company performed Fables of the Reconstruction in its entirety and then added a set of REM favorites to toast the influential jangle pop album.

Robin Trower’s recent set at The Birchmere, the first of two evenings at the venue, may have been the loudest show I’ve ever taken in in that room. Though he may be pushing 80, the British guitar god still turns up the volume with high-octane blues rock. This set of shows came after Trower was forced to cancel a tour last year due to medical issues that required major surgery with extensive recovery.

The Annapolis Baygrass Festival has helped make Maryland’s capital a hub for bluegrass music, but thanks to Naptown’s longest-thriving venue, bands, duos, and solo players have an intimate venue to visit at any time of the year, not just for the end-of-summer Baygrass gathering.

A couple of acts on the rise, North Carolina’s Chatham Rabbits and East Nash Grass out of the Music City recently embarked on a series of co-headlining shows, offering concertgoers the chance to enjoy two different takes on string-band music in the same sitting.

The night of March 2, Chatham Rabbits — performing as a duo — and East Nash Grass — rolling as a quintet — teamed up to treat a packed Rams Head on Stage with two terrific sets of songs.
