The National Cannabis Festival returned to RFK Stadium Festival Grounds recently to celebrate the leaps and bounds the cannabis community has made in the name of cannabis advocacy. Vendors, food trucks, local merchants, and of course smokers gathered to fellowship around the love for their favorite pastime.

A crowd estimated at 20,000+, throughout the day of April 23, showed up early to take advantage of the beautiful weather in the DMV. Carts and coolers in tow, the amazing musical lineup had everyone excited as they claimed their spot for the evening. Pro Cannabis organizations Legacy DC & Gifted Curators provided an educational element with a panel of speakers featuring Dead Prez’s M-1 and adult film star Sara Jay.

The sixth annual National Cannabis Festival, the East Coast’s largest ticketed cannabis gathering, returns to Washington’s RFK Festival Grounds on Saturday, April 23, with performances from Wiz Khalifa, Lettuce, and Ghostface Killah, a wide range of exhibitors, and a brand-new culinary pavilion complete with cooking demonstrations led by top chefs, talks and eating contests, among many other attractions.

It was a scripted comedy routine at the 93th Annual Academy Awards, but it was still all kinds of awesome to see accomplished actress Glenn Close name-check go-go bands Experience Unlimited and Backyard Band at the Oscars ceremony on Sunday.

Live Review: Raphael Saadiq @ 9:30 Club — 2/9/20

A few years ago, I was a commuter, making the trip from Baltimore to DC every day through rush hour traffic and some time on my hands while stuck in that bumper-to-bumper grind. My one saving grace was this album, “Stone Rollin'” that I became obsessed with. It felt old but in a new way — bright production with an old soul.

I knew of Raphael Saadiq’s group in the late 80’s, Tony! Toni! Toné! due to my brother’s R&B CDs (I was more of a punk rock youngster myself), but there was something about Saadiq’s solo work that clicked with me.

One dollar bills rained down on the crowd as Lil Baby hit the stage for a sold-out DC crowd recently at The Anthem along with opening act Rod Wave. Baby got the people bouncing from the minute he came out performing the Drake featured “Yes Indeed” followed by other older songs that helped establish him such as “My Dawg” and “Freestyle” while the money fell into the crowd.

R&B sensation Raheem DeVaughn organized a big holiday show at the Howard Theatre on Dec. 21, and Chris Castillo was there to photograph it! The show was all about uniting people, and Raheem was accompanied by the legendary go-go band Backyard Band, Major, Faith Evans, and several other acts!
