Rick Wakeman’s Grumpy Old Rock Star tour featured a man who is anything but. Rather, we got a wonderfully intimate, hilarious, and jaw-dropping performance from the former Strawbs, on-again off-again YES, and unparalleled session keyboardist recently at The Birchmere. Not a grumpy soul in the room, least of all Mr. Wakeman himself.

Emancipator, born Doug Appling, released Baralku, his fifth studio album, late last year via his own Loci Records, and it hit #1 on the iTunes Electronic Chart. Emancipator is touring his new album with a show at 9:30 Club *this* Saturday, Feb. 3. You can win tickets to go with Parklife DC!

In 1996, a Finnish cello band released their debut album, where they promptly shattered expectations and produced an album of Metallica covers. Apocalyptica thus published Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, an instrumental rock opus dedicated to songs by the famous heavy metal band. To mark the 20th anniversary of the album, Apocalyptica remasters it with bonus tracks in 2016 and launched a tour — and that tour arrives at the Lincoln Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Agnes Obel performs at 9:30 Club on March 7, 2017.
Anges Obel played songs at turns crystalline, absorbing, and resplendent in an appearance at 9:30 Club on Tuesday. The Danish-born resident of Berlin passed through DC as part of her biggest US tour yet on the heels of her third album, Citizen of Glass, released late last year via Play It Again Sam.
