Editor’s Note: This year, we asked our bloggers to name their Top 10 shows of 2018 or choose their Top 10 photos of the year. We will run them over the course of mid-December as our Best of the Year posts.

As we are nearing 2018’s finale, I have to say that this past year brought with it some of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. From the big production shows in large theaters to completely packed club shows, there was an intensity to most of the performances this past year that I’ll remember for years to come! Here are my 10 best shows of the year.

The year 2017 has been full of contradictions. For many, myself included, it was a year filled with uncertainty and frustration, but to a certain degree it also woke people up. And the music that was created was some of the best in years.

How can so much brilliant sound come from two people? If you’ve heard anything of the thunderous rock of Japandroids — the duo of Brian King (guitars/vocals) and David Prowse (drums/vocals) — you’d have some clue to the answer. One part Bruce Springsteen and two parts Replacements with more than a dash of punk rock thrown in for good measure, Japandroids brought spectacle and inspired energy to Rams Head Live in Baltimore Monday night!

Cleveland indie rockers Cloud Nothings are on tour with Japandroids in the wake of releasing Life Without Sound, their fourth studio album, via Carpark Records earlier this year. The tour locally lands at Ram’s Head Live in Baltimore, Maryland, on Monday, Oct. 30.
