Refashioned post-punk quartet Priests really grooved to their appealing new songs at 9:30 Club recently in front of a very crowded hometown audience. In a very welcome development for a rapidly maturing band, the new songs proved the most fascinating in live performance.

There is a certain pleasure in watching seasoned masters of any genre showcase their chops. And so it was that the masters of ska in The Specials returned to The Fillmore Silver Spring recently, stabilized by three experienced musicians and rejuvenated by a UK #1 hit record.

DC post-punks Priests released “Mother,” a cover of the 1988 song by Danzig today! The single, available only via Amazon Music, follows on the heels of the trio’s second full-length record, The Seduction of Kansas, which dropped in April. Priests next perform at 9:30 Club on Saturday, June 15.

The Wave Gotik Treffen 2019, the 28th edition of the legendary urban festival, occurs on June 7-10 across Leipzig, Germany. Wave Gotik Treffen is again expected to draw about 20,000 people for dark music and arts from the genres of goth, industrial, neo-folk, and others.

Interview: Terri Nunn of Berlin (@ The Anthem, 9/17/19)

Berlin, the California-based new wave collective, recruited Terri Nunn as lead singer in 1979, and so the band is celebrating 40 years of making music this year. Over the decades, Berlin has continued as a live band with Terri’s undeniably alluring vocals, but the classic lineup of the band only ever made three records together — Pleasure Victim (1982), Love Life (1984), and Count Three & Pray (1986). But what three marvelous albums!

Today, Terri has reunited with her classic bandmates, John Crawford and David Diamond. Berlin recorded a new album, Transcendence, due for release on Aug. 2. Meanwhile, The B-52s invited Berlin to open for them on a farewell tour, including a stop at The Anthem on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Parklife DC’s Mickey McCarter recently chatted with Terri Nunn about working with John Crawford and David Diamond again, the upcoming megatour, and being a female musician, among other things.
