Thanksgiving Turkey

Thanksgiving for many involves travel to a relative’s house outside of the DC area for a day of food and reunions.

But for some, including myself on occasion, we remain here in town, holding down the fort. And yet we may seek a festive meal in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday or simply to slake our annual craving for too much turkey and stuffing.

Fortunately, some DC restaurants realize the need to cater to folks like us, and so they offer a Thanksgiving dinner to those who want to get out of the house on Thursday.

Here are a few quick recommendations for you to consider if you’re dining out in DC for Thanksgiving dinner:

Chef Geoff’s

All locations of Chef Geoff’s and its sister Italian restaurant Lia’s (4435 Willard Ave., Chevy Chase, Md.) will be open from 1-7pm on Thanksgiving Day. They are offering a three-course meal for $39 (plus tax and tip).

The meal consists of a maple-orange glazed turkey with chicken sausage-sour cherry stuffing, roasted garlic & buttermilk whipped potatoes, traditional gravy, brussels and bacon, and port wine cranberry sauce.

You can see the full menu available at the various locations of Chef Geoff’s online at http://www.chefgeoff.com/menu. Geoff is encouraging folks to make a reservation at http://www.chefgeoff.com/reservations/.

The locations of the Chef Geoff’s restaurants:

Chef Geoff’s (3201 New Mexico Ave. NW, DC)
Chef Geoff’s Downtown (1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, DC)
Chef Geoff’s Tysons (8045 Leesburg Pike, Vienna, Va.)
Chef Geoff’s Rockville (12256 Rockville Pike, Rockville Md.)

Martin’s Tavern

Historic Martin’s Tavern (1264 Wisconsin Ave. NW, DC) in Georgetown will keep fairly regular hours on Thanksgiving and offer a traditional dinner for $29.

Martin’s Tavern plans to open at 11am, serving a special brunch and lunch until 4pm. Thanksgiving Dinner is served noon to 11pm. Martin’s promises turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans almondine, cranberry sauce, sausage or vegetable stuffing, and rolls and butter, plus many other dinner selections if you aren’t a turkey lover!

You can email Martin’s Tavern for the full Thanksgiving menu at info@martinstavern.com and make a reservation to eat by calling 202-333-7370.

Mr. Smith’s

Mr. Smith’s Saloon (3205 K St. NW, DC) has remained in business after a move a few months ago from M Street to a spot closer to the Georgetown Harbor.

It’s offering a very affordable yet traditional Thanksgiving meal, and it’s planning to stay open all day.

Mr. Smith’s plans to serve a turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and corn bread for only $12.95.
