There’s nothing like family and good music. Joey Harkum’s recent show gave my soul just that at Baltimore Soundstage. A hometown hero show through and through, it’s always amazing to see Harkum and other local talents making it to bigger and better things. On Joey’s album release tour, we were all ready to sing along to new and old songs alike.

With openers Bond and Bentley and Pressing Strings (both Maryland based bands), this show brought out an amazing crowd that always considers each other family at Baltimore Soundstage on March 16. Joey Harkum’s fanbase has been following him since his days in the Pasadena band, who play an annual reunion show in Baltimore, with some fans having followed him for over 25 years. This ultimately shows not only the loyalty this family has to one another, but also how relatable Joey Harkum’s music is and always has been.

The venue was nearly sold out, and it was clear to see why as the fans all packed in and got ready for the night ahead of them. Bond and Bentley opened up the night getting everyone in the mood for a night of Americana music and good vibes.

Throughout the night, Joey walked around saying hello and getting drinks with fans and friends alike, reminding us all that while he is on bigger stages now, it is his goal to always remember that the homegrown fanbase is what has kept him going and that his shows will always be more personal in nature as opposed to the bigger arena type productions.

As Joey took the stage, fans erupted in cheers, ready to sing along to every song. Joey opened the set with a few songs, including the titular track “The Art of Revenge,” which he started off by saying “the best revenge is living well,” a theme many of the audience members can relate to on numerous levels. He moved into classics like “I’ll Be Gone” and “Whiskey Song,” and the audience moved right with him.

Overall, it was a night full of friends, family, and fun with good music all around that helped cure the souls of the entire the audience that night.
