There are really only a handful of bands that have been able to sustain a cult-like following. There are the obvious ones like The Grateful Dead, but I would say that, in the past 30 years Tool have firmly rooted themselves near the top of that list. And this was no less evident at the first stop in the band’s winter tour in Baltimore.

TOTALLY TUBULAR FESTIVAL will debut in 17 markets across North America starting June 28 in Santa Barbara, California, and wrapping up July 27 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the festival recently announced.

Although there is no DC-area date on the schedule, Parklife recommends that DMV new wavers take an easy drive down to Raleigh, North Carolina, to catch the Totally Tubular Festival at the Red Hat Ampitheater on Saturday, July 13.

Festival headliners include Thomas Dolby, Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins, and Modern English!

I recently had the opportunity to attend a flamenco performance by Oleaje Flamenco, a Seattle, Washington-based dance company. Although Parklife DC rarely features dance performances, the artistic excellence and sheer power of flamenco guitar and dance matched any rock concert I’ve ever attended.
