TRAP ARMS UP! YehMe2 played a high-intensity trap tracks that mesmerized his audience, which proceeded to stop, mosh, and scream through his performance at U Street Music Hall last week. His sound was filled with several new remixes of current and old popular tracks that lifted the feet of everyone in the building!

Recently we traveled to DC gem U Street Music Hall, where we heard Jennifer Lee, better known as Tokimonsta, bless our eardrums with harmonic bass-driven sounds! Her debut album, Midnight Menu was a hit and seven years later, she’s still at it.

In the encore of the show by Phoenix at The Anthem on Monday, frontman Thomas Mars praised Prince, telling the audience how struck he was by seeing the iconic artist in a concert in Paris when Thomas was only 8 years old.
So it’s no surprise that the latest effort by Phoenix — the sunny album Ti Amo — was in some ways inspired by Prince as much as it was by Italian dance and romance.

Fear. Anxiety. Depression. These psychological stressors are at an all-time high, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, affecting an estimated 8.3 million American adults. Sure, meditation and exercise might be tried and true methods to calm an overloaded brain, but the Canadian baroque pop collective Broken Social Scene have an alternative prescription to offer. No, it’s not “more cowbell” — although it wouldn’t be all that surprising given how many musical instruments they utilize on stage. Kevin Drew and crew employ a more engaging and face-to-face method.

Brothers Keith and Michael Jeffrey, better known as alternative rock band Atlas Genius, put on a lively show at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue on Monday. Atlas Genius is currently on a US tour following the release of their new single, “63 Days,” the band’s first new music for nearly two years.

English DJ and producer Chris Lake recently collaborated with Skrillex on the compilation HOWSLA, which includes his own single “I Want You.” The compilation hit #1 on the iTunes electronic chart, and his single has continued to receive robust airplay. Now on his Lose My Mind Tour, Chris arrives at U Street Music Hall on Friday, Oct. 20, to spin some house.

The inimitable Chris Rock will bring his keen comedic timing and off-color jokes to MGM National Harbor for four nights, beginning tonight, Oct. 18. Chris appears Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in The Theater at MGM National Harbor this week on The Total Blackout Tour, and only a few tickets remain for each performance (although tonight is sold out). On Sept. 29, Lucinda Williams released This Sweet Old World via Highway 20/ThirtyTigers. This remarkable album reimagines and reinterprets Lucinda’s seminal 1992 album Sweet Old World in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Lucinda is touring to mark that anniversary with a concert at The Lincoln Theatre on Monday, Oct. 30.
