Brooke Alexx’s Big Mouth Tour recently dropped into DC9 for great performances by Brooke Alexx and opener Rosemary Joaquin. The sold-out show as packed with young people and non-stop fun. The show was Alexx’s first stop in DC on her current first headlining tour.

At DC9 on Nov. 5, Joaquin, a fantastic new singer in the new generation of amazing female singers, launched the show and fast-paced evening and played about a 30-minute set including her hit song “It Was Me.” Joaquin’s sound is very oriented towards pop and dance and songs with beautiful melodies – it’s very personal in nature. But both performers provide a lot of personal introspection with their songs and performance, and blending two performers with these similar styles made for a very heartfelt night of music and highlights individual experiences that a lot of people in the audience can probably relate too.

Brooke Alexx and Rosemary Joaquin brought powerful energy into their sets. It’s like their energy levels are taken up a notch from normal people. This quality definitely adds to the quality and style of their music. These girls really bring a punch, with quirky songs and music that sticks in your head. Their songs are about boyfriends, girlfriends, relationships, and growing up in the 2020s, and just life in general.

The realness of the songs was felt throughout both DC9 sets, and the words conveyed on a very personal level, especially for girls in their 20s. While the energy levels are amazing at times, the creativity of the set is fantastic as well with various color schemes on stage, with great stage movement and words that blend well with the music being played, which ranged from pop to alternative style melodic rock. The band entire band was outstanding, and the guitarist and drummer played during both performances.

Interestingly, Alexx and Joaquin are roommates in Nashville and are currently playing together on this tour in support of Alexx’s album Big Mouth, which was the focus of the show at DC9. Alexx emphasized that they are from Nashville, and they genuinely love living there. You also get this feeling in Alexx’s song “Move To LA (I Don’t Wanna),” one of my favorite tracks on the album.

One of the highlights of Alexx’s show was her leaving the stage and gathering the audience in a circle around her to sing an intimate song, before heading back to the show and closing out the show with “Younger Guys,” one of the best songs from her current album — a very trendy, upbeat song.

Watch the official music video for “Younger Guys” by Brooke Alexx on YouTube:

“Moved to LA” (as mentioned earlier) and “Seriously” were also great songs that were some of the highlights of the headlining show. Other songs on the album also discuss growing up, and many aspects the typical things a young girl could feel and experience and were also delivered in a very upbeat, and friendly manner. The creativity, and the attitude Alexx brings to the stage assures that the songs will energize the audience creating a “we want more” type of effect. Simply put, Alexx brought a ton of energy and fun to the stage — as did Joaquin.

The entire Big Mouth album is outstanding and a great selection of songs and music for a first headlining tour. Alexx’s songs are very melodic with great music, and feeling that draws the audience in, in the same manner as other current artists such as Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter.

It will be interesting to see where Alexx takes her career for her next album and project. I highly recommend going to see Brooke at one of her next shows. She delivers fantastic music with great melodies and lyrics that you can easily latch onto from your own personal experiences.

  1. Great review and pics. This show was great.

The ending song, which was cut off on the printed setlist I saw in person, was actually “All My Exes’ Moms”

Some of the abbreviations in the setlist aren’t obvious to the uniniated. My best correction of the setlist is below:

    SUPER FAMOUS
    GIRLFRIEND//DUMB IN LOVE
    I DON’T TAKE PICTURES ANYMORE//PHOTOGRAPH
    GRACE
MOVE TO LA (I DON’T WANNA)
    NEVER LIKED YOUR NAME
    OLDEST
    I’M SORRY, TOKYO
    SERIOUSLY
    STEPPING STONE
SUMMER IN THE HAMPTONS//BREAKUP ON VACATION
    HOT LIKE YOU//HOT TO GO
    YOUNGER GUYS
    ALL MY EXES’ MOMS

  2. I just wanted to point out that Brooke’s guitarist on this tour is/was DC’s own Beth Cannon (Elizabeth II) who’s a fantastic musician and performer herself. I’m bummed I missed her return to DC9 and what must have been a terrific show.
