Harpist Mikaela Davis released Delivery, her debut album, in July via Rounder Records. She’ll perform at DC9 on Monday, Oct. 15.
John Congleton produced the record for Mikaela, a classically trained musician, “unspooling her sweet and salty songs in a hypnotic whorl of sparkling harp and fuzzed out pop exploration,” according to a press release.
Over the summer, Mikaela and her band celebrated her record release in Brooklyn on July 26 at Baby’s All Right and in her hometown of Rochester, New York, on Aug. 11. Now, she headlines at DC9!
Listen to “Half Right” by Elliott Smith performed as a harp solo by Mikaela Davis on YouTube:
“This record is kind of about writing a record,” Mikaela said.
The 26-year-old singer-songwriter added, “A lot of these songs came from feeling stuck and also like people were pulling me in a bunch of different directions. I wanted to say, ‘Just wait for me. I’ll figure it out.’”
