I guess hearing The Cult bang out classics like “Fire Woman” and “Sun King” got someone a little too fired up at the band’s performance last week at The Anthem because lead singer Ian Astbury took it upon himself to jump into the crowd and break up a scuffle near the front row while the band performed “Rain” late in the set. Of course, there’s video.

Luckily, on July 19, the distraction didn’t take anything away from the show, with Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy combing through their back catalog for cuts like “Sweet Soul Sister” and “Edie (Ciao Baby)” along with their major hits like “She Sells Sanctuary” and “Love Removal Machine.” They also played their new single “Give Me Mercy” from their upcoming album Under The Midnight Sun which will be released in October.

Watch the official music video for “Give Me Mercy” by The Cult on YouTube:

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club opened the show and performed an hour of their trademark bluesy-rock, opening with a powerful “Beat the Devils Tattoo” and closing with the 1-2 punch of “Whatever Happened to My Rock n’ Roll (Punk Song)” and “Spread Your Love.”
