Annie DiRusso recently brought her charm, humor, and considerable talent to the 9:30 Club. Not only that, but her set brought a dedicated fanbase that made sure not a moment of silence occurred throughout the night. After all, it was her biggest headline show to date, so it was bound to be a special one.
DiRusso is a Tennessee-based indie rock artist who just released her first full-length album. March 2025 saw the release of her debut, Super Pedestrian, a collection of lyrical depth and sonic experimentation. In February 2023, she released her debut EP, God, I Hate This Place. The tour showcased songs from both. Despite only being released just two months ago, it was clear from the custom outfits to loud cheers and the crowd singing along that her fans are not new to her game at 9:30 Club on May 24.
In matching white button-downs and ties, DiRusso and her band performed in front of a set that featured the tour’s name, “Back in Town,” and song references.

DiRusso is a 2023 alum of The Atlantis, and she was also in the DMV last year when she played All Things Go Music Festival. Previously, she has supported artists such as HAIM, Samia, Declan McKenna, beabadoobee, Djo, and Peach Pit on tour.
Nearly every song she sang on Saturday came with a playful, funny introduction and/or back-and-forth interactions with the crowd. Before “Good Ass Movie,” she jokingly introduced every band member as Annie DiRusso to laughs from the crowd, and she shared their favorite movies.
During “Back in Town,” DiRusso excited and maybe surprised fans when a member of her team walked out on stage with a walking pad and plugged it in. She proceeded to walk and run in place on it while she was singing the duration of the song, which makes one wonder if that’s ever happened on the 9:30’s stage before.
DiRusso didn’t need an encore to end the show strong. Yet another exciting element was the end of the set, which didn’t have an encore, where Annie invited a fan on stage to play guitar for “Coming Soon.” The fan, dressed like DiRusso and her band, had a sign that asked to join them, which taught the crowd that it never hurts to ask.
