Roosevelt, born Marius Lauber, burst out of Germany with his self-titled debut album last year via Greco-Roman. Roosevelt is on a tour of the United States, and he dances into U Street Music Hall this Saturday, June 3.
Many observers agree that Roosevelt has a knack for pairing winning disco melodies with sunny ’80s electronics, resulting in pleasing dance tunes. The young artist cites influences ranging from French dance-pop to American yacht rock to German electronica pioneers (like Manuel Göttsching, Ash Ra Tempel, and Neu!). The heady sonic cocktail caught the ear of Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, who signed Roosevelt to his record label Greco-Roman.
