Harry and Alfie Hudson-Taylor have assembled friends and family for their current tour, opening Hozier. On Tuesday night at the Lincoln Theatre, with their high energy tunes, soaring harmonies and expert musicianship, they had the crowd asking for more after a brief, but hugely satisfying opening set.

Los Angeles rock-n-rollers Valley Queen dropped by to open Social Distortion at The Fillmore Silver Spring recently, and Paivi was there to shoot the show. Led by singer Natalie Carol, the band’s short set drew from their debut album Supergiant, released in July via Roll Call Records.

Kali Uchis released her debut album, Isolation, in April via Interscope Records. The native of Alexandria, Virginia, has been winning the hearts of critics, and she performs for two nights at 9:30 Club soon! The first night is sold out, but you can still buy tickets for the second night, Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Nine Inch Nails, the ambitious industrial project of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, has awoken! In June, NIN released Bad Witch, the final volume in a trilogy that began with 2016’s Not The Actual Events and 2017’s Add Violence. NIN scheduled two nights for The Anthem, and the first sold out, but tickets remain for their show on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Guitarist Tom Morello will release a solo album, The Atlas Underground, featuring songs like “We Don’t Need You” featuring Vic Mensa and “Battle Sirens” featuring Knife Party, on Oct. 12. But first, Tom performs at The Miracle Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 6.

There was no easing into the show on Tuesday. Starting with the opening riff of the night, the pedal was slammed to the floor, and everyone inside The Fillmore Silver Spring was along for the fast ride of guitar-driven, hard rock with rock ‘n’ roll icon Slash.

Vocalist Lizzy Plapinger, formerly of MS MR and now of LPX, takes DC by storm this weekend, co-curating an all-female lineup for the first day of All Things Go Fall Classic. You can see her at Eaton House Friday, and on stage on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Union Market DC. (Find more details here!)

And Lizzy is also co-founder of Neon Gold Records, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last weekend at the Knockdown Center in Queens, New York City, with a showcase dubbed Neon Gold X. LPX performed there too, and Parklife DC caught her performance along with Broods and Marina (formerly Marina and the Diamonds).

Around Town: Dimensions DC @ Ai — 9/28-9/30/18

Entering the warehouse space that was set up to house the Dimensions DC multi-sensory art and music experience recently, I realized that I had been to the place before. Several years ago, the nondescript building was one of the sites for the Forward festival, a citywide electronic arts and music showcase. I don’t think this stretch of West Virginia Ave. was as developed back then.
