Psychedelic rockers King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard released their ninth studio album on Feb. 24 via ATO Records in the United States and Flightless Records in their native Australia. They are on tour with a local concert at 9:30 Club on Wednesday, March 29. Parklife DC is giving away a pair of tickets to go!

Few men command the respect of Tiësto from the DJ booth. Often voted “Best DJ of All Time,” the Dutchman has set a very high bar indeed over the past 20 years. He kept very busy last year, released a series of singles, and started a label dedicated to deep house. No stranger to DC, he returns to spin at Echostage on Friday, March 10, and Saturday, March 11.

Draping the intimate space within Recessions in soothing synthpop, Swedish duo Kite dropped by the weekly Spellbound party on Saturday to engross an attentive crowd with their poignant compositions.

Last week, The English beat performed to a very crowded house at 9:30 Club, and Parklife DC caught the show. (Read our review!) Prior to the show, I had the opportunity to sit down with David Wakeling, the brains behind the band, for a lengthy chat. Born in Birmingham, England, Dave started The Beat there (and took it to the United States where it became known as The English Beat.) Roughly 30 years ago, he migrated to the United States and now resides in Southern California.

Steel Panther launch a tour today in their hometown of Los Angeles, leading up to the release of their fourth studio album, Lower the Bar, on March 24 via Steel Panther Inc. The humorous glam metal quartet will play somewhat locally at The National in Richmond, Virginia, on Monday, April 17.

Dave Wakeling arrived in DC Wednesday in good spirits. With a mischievous grin and a boisterous attitude, Dave and his band in The English Beat appeared at 9:30 Club to enthrall a very full house with Dave’s time-tested ska, reggae, and new wave hits, which had the whole room skanking.

Last fall, Sting released his 12th solo album, 57th & 9th, via A&M/Interscope Records. Currently, Sting is on a tour to celebrate the occasion, and he will perform locally at MGM National Harbor on Sunday, March 12.
