Charlie Parr strolled onto the stage at the Black Cat and promptly sat down, plugged in his guitar, and started playing. What followed was a fantastic and intimate performance that I will never forget.

It wasn’t only the headliners that impressed at All Things Go Fall Classic. Take the afternoon bands on the final day of Sunday, Oct. 8, for example. Great musical duos Now, Now and Foreign Air kept festival-goers entertained at Union Market and had us searching Spotify for their latest releases.

The Anthem, 9:30 Club’s majestic new sister venue at The Wharf, hosted two soft opening dates this week on Sunday and Tuesday prior to a friends and family party Wednesday and its grand opening tonight.

Parklife DC attended the second soft opening date on Tuesday, when Andrew WK partied hard in a wonderfully raucous concert, and we can report that the space is *beautiful*. It’s like someone scooped up a freshly built stage from an arena and deposited it into a shiny new Grand Central Station building with three levels of impressive views and lots of creature comforts, big and small.

October’s first weekend was a frantic one for Near Northeast. On Saturday, the band performed at Porchfest in Adams Morgan, then loaded up their gear for a quick trip to Norfolk, Virginia, for a secret SoFar show. Then it was back up to the District to support headliner Sam Amidon at the Songbyrd Music House Sunday.

The quartet, named for the D.C. neighborhood where it originated, takes its work and art  seriously: relentlessly performing whenever and wherever a gig is to be had.
