Allah-Las will take you to sunny California at the drop of a record needle. The garage rockers famously formed a band when three of its four members were working at Amoeba Music, and their articulate surf-influenced music certainly sounds like it was made by musicians who absorbed as much of their surroundings as possible.

When I first heard of the concept, I scratched my head a little bit. Warren Haynes of Southern rock band Gov’t Mule teamed up with funk musician and producer Don Was to assemble a group of musicians to recreate the setlist of The Last Waltz, the concert film that captured the last performance of The Band.

The Wood Brothers recorded their most recent album, Paradise, at Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye studio in Nashville, and they have been touring ever since with their next DC stop at 9:30 Club on Saturday, Feb. 11.
