Swedish futurepop band Covenant released The Blinding Dark, their ninth full-length album, in 2016 via Dependent Records. Fronted as ever by Eskil Simonsson, the band is now on The Blinding Dark USA Tour, which included a stop at Ivy City Smokehouse Tavern on Sunday. Paivi was there to capture the show.

Sven Friedrich previously helmed musical projects Zeraphine and Dreadful Shadows. Since 2007, he’s been recording as Solar Fake. Last week, Solar Fake visited DC to open for Aesthetic Perfection at Ivy City Tavern.
“Goth pop” chanteuse Nyxx got her start from Los Angeles with the release of her debut EP, Nightmare, in 2016.
On the heels of a new single, “Love Like Lies,” Aesthetic Perfection (L.A. producer Daniel Graves) launched a tour that brought him to DC to play at Ivy City Tavern on Tuesday.
Assemblage 23 is a Seattle-based electronic/synthwave band currently touring United States in support of their latest album Endure.
In a show produced by Spellbound Productions, Assemblage 23 drew quite a large crowd to an unusual new DC venue — Ivy City Smokehouse. As the name implies, Ivy City Smokehouse is a seafood restaurant, but it has a large, separate stage room that accommodated hundreds of concert-goers and provided Assemblage 23 with a state of the art sound system.
The Rain Within is a one-man synthwave project by Andy Deane. If his name sounds familiar, it is probably because Mr. Deane is also the lead vocalist for Charlottesville, Virginia-based gothic rock outfit Bella Morte.
The Rain Within’s new album Dark Drive was released September 23rd through Negative Gain Productions, and it is available from Bandcamp. My early favorite track is Eclipse if you want to give it a try!
Over 4th of July weekend I had a chance to venture out and peek into a couple of the new bars that opened in the NE (Big Chief) and SE (The Brig).
I like beer gardens as a concept, so I usually make it a point to visit new ones when they open. Sipping suds outside on a cool evening or in the shade on a hot day, I can handle that.
