Midway through his set, Joe Pug stepped out from behind the mic and perform a cover of Tex Thomas’s “Deep Dark Wells.” When he finished, he commented, “there does not need to be any intermediary” between the performer and the audience.

When the pandemic put a halt to touring, the singer-songwriter pivoted to performing online once a week on Sunday evenings. While it’s helped him get through the past couple years, the virtual experience leaves something to be desired on both ends.

Singer-songwriter Joe Pug recently announced a new album, The Diving Sun, which brings together lost gems from his various studio sessions with producers Duane Lundy (Jim James, Ben Sollee) and Kenneth Pattengale (The Milk Carton Kids, Joy Williams) along with new songs recorded in quarantine.

To accompany the announcement, Joe shared the album’s romping summer romance lead track, “Crescent Bridge.”

After many years living in Austin, Greenbelt native Joe Pug has returned to “gorgeous Prince George’s.” Now married and a father, the veteran troubadour came back home to rejuvenate himself after experiencing burnout. Appearing solo at The Hamilton recently, he appeared refreshed and vigorous.

In a sold-out show at The Anthem on Wednesday, The Killers reminded us that they hail from Las Vegas — and in Las Vegas, folks know how to put on a big, stupendous show. Frontman Brandon Flowers and company brought it all — great music, neon videos, and gold suits — in support of touring their fifth studio album, the aptly named Wonderful Wonderful.
