Parklife DC celebrates the post-punk revival in our monthly DJ party Careless Memories, tomorrow Sept. 14 at Dodge City. Join us to hang out and listen to cool tunes!
Fifteen years ago, Interpol published its influential first album, Turn on the Bright Lights, and the next year Franz Ferdinand began to record with first single “Darts of Pleasure.”
By this point, it was clear that the post-punk revival was seriously underway. As AllMusic Guide says, “During the late ’90s and early ’00s, a rash of bands — including Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, the Strokes, and the Rapture — surfaced with clear indebtedness to post-punk and new wave, bearing inspirations like Blondie, Gang of Four, Joy Division, and Wire.”
Watch the official music video for “The Dark of the Matinee” by Franz Ferdinand (a personal favorite band and song of ours here at Parklife DC) on YouTube:

On Sept. 14, Careless Memories will celebrate the post-punk revival (more a “continuum” as AMG said, and we agree) for a night of “next wave” artists including Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, Metric, Kaiser Chiefs, Goldfrapp, Editors, The Bravery, The Sounds, Tokyo Police Club, Cut Copy, Dragonette, The Drums, and Marina and The Diamonds, among others. Come out to dance.
Admission for Careless Memories is free. RSVP on Facebook or simply meet us there!
