The National stopped at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Friday in their first area appearance since playing The Anthem at the end of 2017, finishing up a string of dates leading up to their own There’s No Leaving New York festival in Queens.

From the moment he walked out into the darkened stage and the lights slowly came up, Pete Yorn had the audience in the palm of his hand. With just a guitar, harmonica, his distinctive voice, and two dozen songs, Pete delivered a satisfying and heartfelt show at the Howard Theatre recently.

He proudly preached his stances on topical issues such as stopping medicare benefits for those who do not contribute to our society — like the bedridden and the elderly. Another pertinent platform being eradicating all crime from San Bernardino. Absolutely all of it. His Trump rally-esque attitude was shining through recently in an appearance at The Fillmore Silver Spring.

Watermelon Park, located in Berryville, Virginia, on the banks of the Shenandoah River, is a local haven for camping, tubing and kayaking all summer long. It hosted the 15th annual Watermelon Park Festival recently, and we’ve got pictures of the performing bands to prove it!

All Things Go Fall Classic returns to Union Market on Saturday, Oct. 6, and Sunday, Oct. 7, heralding an all-female lineup on its first day. You can buy tickets for one- or two-day visits to the festival!

Maggie Rogers and LPX (Lizzy Plapinger) have helped curate an all-female lineup for the first day of the festival, which will feature performances by Billie Eilish, Jessie Reyez, Maggie, LPX, and more. Day two of the festival will see headlining performances by Grammy nominee Carly Rae Jepsen, Misterwives, Betty Who, and other favorites.

David “Dave 1” Macklovitch and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel last played Baltimore when their electronic-disco-funk outfit, Chromeo, performed at the 2008 Virgin Music Festival. This past Tuesday, Chromeo made their triumphant return to Charm City with a two-hour set at Ram’s Head Live.

In 1976, Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible formed The Damned, the innovative post-punk band that has rocked England now for decades. The Damned released Evil Spirits, their 11th studio album, in April via Search and Destroy and Spinefarm. The record was a smash, hitting #7 on the UK Albums chart and catapulting the always vital band back into the public eye.

While Dave and Captain Sensible have worked with a number of musicians over the years, Monty Oxymoron has been the keyboardist for The Damned since 1996, recording on their last three albums and touring globally with the band. And he will play with The Damned again in DC at Black Cat on Saturday, Oct. 20. Parklife DC chatted with Monty about the new album, his history with The Damned, and what makes the band so unique and well loved for more than 40 years.

In June, Florence and the Machine released High as Hope, the band’s fourth studio album, via by Republic Records and Virgin EMI Records. Florence and the Machine scheduled a show for The Anthem, which promptly sold out! But tickets are still available for a second night, Saturday, Oct. 6.
