Alt-country rock legend Alejandro Escovedo, named Performer of the Decade at the end of the 1990s by roots music bible No Depression, made his second appearance at City Winery DC on Tuesday, sharing a personal tale of perseverance and the search for a better life.

Punk legend Alejandro Escovedo released a new album, The Crossing, in September via Yep Roc Records. He visits City Winery DC on Tuesday, Jan. 15 for a stop on The Crossing Tour.

I had a personal reason for attending and photographing the show of Alejandro Escovedo and Joe Ely recently at the City Winery in Washington, DC, I knew them in the ole days of the ’70s.

Genre-busting singer-songwriter Joe Ely has released a lot of material — solo and as a member of The Flatlanders and Los Super Seven — since his 1977 self-titled debut album. The legendary guitar slinger will perform with the equally eclectic Alejandro Escovedo at City Winery in DC on Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Alejandro Escovedo plays like his life depends on it. That most artists feel that existence-affirming drive to create is a given; for Escovedo the sentiment is literal. Alejandro opened the East coast leg of his “A Man Under the Influence/Think About the Link Tour, presented by Prevent Cancer Foundation” at The Hamilton Live on Jan. 16 to an enthusiastic and adoring crowd.

The legendary Alejandro Escovedo recently signed to Yep Roc Records, where he will release his next album later this year. Meanwhile, Alejandro launches his Think About the Link Tour, which spans 12 cities including DC on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at The Hamilton.
