Singer-songwriter Hayley Fahey and her sweet and soulful voice will play the DC Music Rocks Festival at 9:30 Club on Saturday, Sept. 2, alongside other local acts including Throwing Plates, The Split Seconds, Stone Driver, and Thaylobleu. The evening festival is an unparalleled opportunity to catch a lot of local music in one spot at the city’s top club during a long holiday weekend.

There are simply bands from whose pores you can feel the joy of rocking out. The Philadelphia-raised / California-based Dave Hause, whose path was cut while in hardcore punk bands such as Step Ahead and The Curse and later The Loved ones, seems born from rock ‘n roll.

Kate Crutchfield aka Waxahatchee released Out in the Storm, her fourth studio album, via Merge Records on July 14. She’s performing at 9:30 Club on Monday, Aug. 21 in support of the record, and you can win tickets to see her with Parklife DC.

Perhaps the most unusual booking on this year’s VANS Warped Tour was the legendary British rock band The Alarm, led by the affable Mike Peters. The traveling music festival hit Merriweather Post Pavilion last month on July 16, and Paivi made it a point to catch the new wave turned folk rock outfit.

Last weekend, revelers gathered at Marvin’s Mountaintop in Masontown, West Virginia, for the second annual Deep Roots Mountain Revival to enjoy Americana, bluegrass, and more with headliners Brandi Carlile, Dr. Dog, and Lettuce. Our friend Chester Simpson was there and took some photos of some of his favorite bands!

The fourth annual River and Roots Festival, hosted by Shepherds Ford Productions, was held outside of Berryville, Virginia (not far from Winchester) on Friday, June 23, through Sunday, June 25 with a lineup of bluegrass, Americana, and roots musicians. Check out these pictures of the festival!
