Kicking off a North American Tour at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Tuesday, Michael Schenker Fest were a force of rock that felt like a throwback to the ’70s and ’80s with their fast-paced songs and frequent guitar solos by lead guitarist and band namesake, Michael Schenker.

Legendary metal guitarist Michael Schenker got his start in the Scorpions in 1971. He left them to perform lead guitar for UFO in the 1970s. And then he formed Michael Schenker Group, which underwent various incarnations through the 2000s.
Now, Michael Schenker is back with Michael Schenker Fest, a group releasing its first studio album, titled Resurrection, on March 2 via Nuclear Blast! To celebrate, Michael launches a North American Tour at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Tuesday, March 6.

KMFDM, the industrial collective founded by Sascha Konietzko in 1984, visited the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia, on Thursday to play songs from across the band’s catalog.

Sept. 25 Update: Sadly, Lord of the Lost announced today that they experienced overwhelming difficulties in obtaining US visas for the tour, so they have canceled.
Dark metal group Lord of the Lost will release Swan Songs II, a new album of 10 songs, via Napalm Records on Oct. 6. The band will be on tour leading up to the release of the album with a show opening for legendary German industrial collective KMFDM on Thursday, Oct. 5, at the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia. Sascha Konietzko founded German industrial rock band KMFDM in 1984, and the collective has gone onto release 20 studio albums. KMFDM released Hell Yeah, its most recent album, in August va earMUSIC and KMFDM Records. The band spends the month of October touring the United States with a stop at the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia, on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The annual Wave Gotik Treffen music festival in in Leipzig, Germany, was certainly a terrific showcase for established bands of goth/post-punk/alternative leanings but it also proved to be a great opportunity for new bands to emerge before big audiences as well.
Case in point: Holygram from Cologne, Germany, who released their self-titled debut EP on Feb. 17 via Reptile Music. Parklife DC photographer Paivi caught the band in action on June 5.
