Post-punk rockers Born Ruffians put on a great live show, and they will put on such a show at DC9 on Saturday, Dec. 15. The post-punks attempted to stop by DC9 in March, soon after the release of Uncle, Duke & The Chief, their fifth studio album, but they postponed due to snow.

Charlyn Marie “Chan” Marshall, better known as Cat Power, released Wanderer, her 10th studio album, in October via Domino. She’s coming to 9:30 Club on Sunday, Dec. 16.

Vocalist Marc Roberge and drummer Chris Culos founded OAR (short for Of a Revolution) in Rockville, Maryland, more than 20 years ago. And now the gents and their bandmates are storming The Anthem in their biggest hometown show ever on Saturday, Dec. 15.

The Turnpike Troubadours released A Long Way from Your Heart, their fourth studio album, on Bossier City Records last year. The country sextet are on tour with a stop at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Downtempo duo Thievery Corporation formed at the height of lounge culture in the mid ‘90s but Rob Garza and Eric Hilton make music perhaps even more powerful and relevant to our increasingly interconnected world today. Thievery Corporation are now coming home for a three-night run at 9:30 Club. While the first two nights have sold out, tickets are still available for the show on Saturday, Dec. 15.

In 2017, electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling released Warmer in the Winter, her first holiday album, via Lindseystomp Music/Concord Records. This year, Lindsey followed that up with a deluxe edition of the album with five new songs. Once again, Lindsey has embarked on The Wanderland Tour over the holidays, and she performs at The Anthem on Friday, Dec. 14.

Project Hera is an endeavor born from a deep passion of women in music. Headed by DC music scene veteran Cathy DiToro (The Legwarmers, Party Like It’s, and So Fetch), the non-profit group dedicates itself to building and strengthening the local music community, while providing a safe and encouraging outlet for women and young girls.
At Pearl Street Warehouse on Sunday, Dec. 9, Project Hera will present Women Who Rock: A Tribute to the ‘90s with 30 local female artists.

Local “punk pixie” Mundy Spears sings her personal style of new wave soul at during the RAW Artists Holiday RAWK DC Showcase at the Howard Theatre on Wednesday, Dec. 12. While we don’t have the full line-up of local artists on hand, Mundy always delivers an engaging show herself, and Parklife DC highly recommends you check her out.

Australian indie rockers Gang of Youths recently released a new live album, MTV Unplugged (Live in Melbourne) with a special vinyl edition coming to the United States on Dec. 21. Before that, however, you can actually see Gang of Youths live at 9:30 Club on Monday, Dec. 10!

UK sophistipop duo China Crisis has made fantastic music, much of which I personally relate to the English New Romantics and their passionate style of forward-looking lyrics with rousing synthpop.
While they’ve been consistently active since their days on the charts, the band’s visits to the United States have been rare until recently. And now, China Crisis performs at City Winery on Thursday, Dec. 6.
