While preparing to cover the first night of a three-night Bacon Brothers residency at The Birchmere, I joked with my friends via a Facebook post that they would all become two degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon, a reference to the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon parlor game which became popular in the 1990s.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band had a stroke of good luck in the form of an early evening thunderstorm recently. The pouring rain cooled down what was a sweltering hot day, making the atmosphere at Wolf Trap for their performance decidedly comfortable.

In the ’90s through the mid ’00s, Chuck Mead led the (alt-)country band BR5-49, which placed several albums into the country charts, despite minimal radio airplay. Following the band’s hiatus, Chuck became the musical director for the Broadway show Million Dollar Quartet and its TV spin-off, Sun Records. Chuck has also released four solo records including, just this June, Close to Home.
This coming Tuesday, July 23, Chuck will appear in the Cosmic Honky Tonky Revue at The Hamilton Live with Jason Ringenberg and Jim Lauderdale. Mark Engleson of Parklife DC caught up with him before the show.

Dear Boy, an indie rock quartet from Los Angeles, proved the perfect opener for the one-two punch of Brit bands James and The Psychedelic Furs at The Fillmore Silver Spring recently. The appealing group captivated the gathering sold-out crowd at The Fillmore immediately with their Britpop-inspired sound.

It was three days across five stages with 40 bands performing along the North River, under the Natural Chimneys, known as the Cyclopean Towers.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Yeasayer consists of Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton, and Anand Wilder. The band took the stage at 9:30 Club recently under a simple, long, sequin fabric running from the ceiling to the floor, almost acting like a makeshift disco ball. Everyone set their instruments, and they were ready for the night to begin.

It’s been a bit since Nick Murphy‘s hit 2014 album Built on Glass. Recently, the Australian singer enter the 9:30 Club, ready to perform songs from his new album, Run Fast Sleep Naked, released in April.
