Panda Bear hit the road in February this year for a short US tour following the release of his sixth solo album, Buoys. Panda Bear performed as a stoic one-man-band to a sea of fans at DC’s famous 9:30 Club recently.

Diners heading to City Winery in Ivy City recently to see the last performance of Steve Earle’s winter residency were treated to a wonderful musical appetizer. Singer/songwriter Shannon McNally warmed up the capacity crowd with a tasty 45-minute solo set of acoustic tunes from her catalog.

Steve Earle is the godfather of Americana music. With his black vest, jeans, and long gray beard, he’s often said to look like an aging biker. But when I saw him at City Winery on Wednesday, I saw a bit of one of the main characters of one of his favorite novels, a sort of Texas Gandalf the Grey.

How could anyone not like the music of Eyelids? Those bouncy songs reminiscent of Big Star and Badfinger, the infectious sense of fun, the sweet melodies and bummer vibes that infuse it with something more than your typical power pop. It was all there at Comet Ping Pong recently.

Kennedy Ashlyn, formerly of Them Are Us Too, lost her bandmate and partner in the Ghost Ship warehouse fire of 2016. Recently, she started a new project, calling it SRSQ, and she released an album, Unreality. SRSQ visited Songbyrd Music House recently, and Paivi shot the show.

DC drone quartet Luna Honey released the band’s debut album, Peace Will Grind You Down, last year via Blight Records. They’ve been performing around town quite a bit since then, and their next show is at the Dew Drop Inn on Monday, Feb. 25.
