Music Park: Metronomy @ Brooklyn Steel — 11/13/17

Metronomy 05 Joseph Mount fronts Metronomy at Brooklyn Steel in New York City on Nov. 13, 2017.

Although famously self-reliant, Joseph Mount likes a good team — and he’s got one in Metronomy, his four-member (five when touring) English indie pop band.

In performance, Metronomy always show some team spirit through color coordinated outfits (occasionally the same matching outfit), but against that backdrop the individual bandmates shine through their own contributions, as demonstrated in a sold-out show at Brooklyn Steel in New York City on Nov. 13.

A. Savage 03 Andrew Savage performs at DC9 on Nov. 10, 2017.

In his premiere solo outing, Andrew Savage of Parquet Courts was everything you would like him to be — a calm, cool, and collected urban cowboy with a wry wit and a passion for guitar.

The self-proclaimed A. Savage and his band also presented a few surprises to a very full house at DC9 on Nov. 10, alongside impressive songs from his solo debut album Thawing Dawn.

3Teeth, Los Angeles’ finest industrial export, stomped through DC for a headlining tour at U Street Music Hall in July. They returned quickly to open for HIM on the Finnish band’s farewell tour at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Nov. 9. Check out some pix from Paivi (and see her pix of HIM also).

The English Beat perform at the Lincoln Theatre on Nov. 7, 2017.

The indefatigable Dave Wakeling and The English Beat have a new album poised for release in March — Here We Go Love — with singles due to hit the airwaves in January. It’s already remarkable that the Englishman has turned three original English Beat albums, and three successive General Public albums, into an entertaining tour de force, and even more so that the new album is really very good.

The new songs shined in performance during an energetic show at the Lincoln Theatre on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

British techno rockers Cubanate hit the State Theatre in Falls Church, Virginia, touring on a retrospective album titled Brutalism, recently released by Armalyte Records. Opening for Front Line Assembly (FLA), Marc Heal and Phil Barry performed songs including “Barbarossa,” “Body Burn,” and “Oxyacetylene.”

Prior to the show, Parklife DC caught up with Marc to ask him about the return of Cubanate and his observations on what’s happening on the industrial music scene today.

I first became aware of Dhani Harrison in 2003 while watching the concert film, “Concert for George.” At one point, Sir Paul McCartney said, referring to Dhani onstage, something to the effect that “we all got old, but George stayed the same.” Indeed, the physical resemblance with his beloved father is startling, but the younger Harrison has made his way as a musician on his own terms as evidenced by his show at U Street Music Hall on Nov. 7.
