Screaming Females returned to perform at Ottobar on Thursday for the first time since Un-Fest 2015. The New Brunswick, New Jersey, trio are far from strangers to Baltimore, playing in Charm City regularly since 2007.

Of Montreal, the band fronted by the charismatic and wildly creative Kevin Barnes, has been going strong through various permutations for more than 20 years. The Athens, Georgia-born band has released 15 full length albums (not including EPs and singles) — during that time, they’ve experimented with styles (straight ahead pop à la Beatles to country tinged Americana to dance).
Although the songwriting is brilliant and the songs tough to get out of your head, the band’s live show (and by “show” I mean it in the most literal sense) has come to be Of Montreal’s signature, and that show arrived at Ottobar on Oct. 24.

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Ivan and Ian Neville, George Porter Jr., and several other New Orleans musical greats recently brought a NOLA party to The Hamilton recently through the Take Me to the River NOLA Live Tour.

Somewhere on the hallowed ground between Etta James and Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Robert Johnson, Samantha Fish is staking out her own territory. This sassy-sweet guitar slinger with a voice that both purrs and growls continues to make the claim that she stands with giants, as well. A packed, standing-room Monday night crowd at The Birchmere would no doubt agree.

“I had a little freakout when my guitar broke last night,” said Captain Sensible during a sold-out show at Black Cat.
“Don’t you freakout now,” The Captain said to the audience. “Unless you want to freakout a little.” He paused. “Monty, dig me out of this hole, will you?”
Keyboardist Monty Oxymoron smiled and asked, “What’s a little freakout in the entire History of the World?” And without missing a beat, The Damned launched into “The History of the World (Part 1),” a single dating to The Black Album in 1980.

Garbage played to a sold-out crowd at the Lincoln Theatre Sunday, gracing us with the first of two nights of the Version 2.0 20th anniversary tour. This tour celebrates the multi-platinum selling and Grammy-nominated album that saw Garbage as one of the top alternative rock bands in the world.
