Missio recently visited U Street Music Hall for a sold-out show on The Loner Tour, showcasing songs from the synthpop duo’s debut album of the same name, released last year on RCA Records.

The best things take time, and so nearly a decade after its founding, ambient pop band Cigarettes After Sex released its debut self-titled full-length album, last year via Partisan Records. Cigarettes After Sex launch a tour next week in Texas in support of the album, and the tour arrives locally at 9:30 Club on Monday, April 2.

In 1985, Mike Rutherford of Genesis formed a side project known as Mike + The Mechanics. That band continued to perform until 2004, when Mike and singer Paul Carrack called it a day. But Mike resurrected the outfit with new members in 2011 with a new album. The refreshed Mike + The Mechanics released a new album, Let Me Fly, via BMG in 2017, and the band will perform at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, on Tuesday, March 27.

A little under a year ago, Austin psychedelic rockers The Black Angels released Death Song, their fifth studio album, via Partisan Records. The quintet now has teamed up with the Black Lips, and together the bands launch The Birds and the Bees Tour, which arrives at 9:30 Club on Monday, April 9. Restaurant industry professionals gathered Monday at The Hamilton Live to hear the list of finalists for the 2018 RAMMY Awards, announced by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW). The winners will ultimately receive recognition at the black-tie RAMMY Awards Gala at the Washington Convention Center on Sunday, June 10.

It was a week before St. Patrick’s Day to be sure, but it was still a pleasant surprise that Dropkick Murphys sold out The Anthem for a spirited show of Celtic punk on Saturday.

Last year, Beth Ditto released her solo debut album, Fake Sugar, via Virgin Records. She performed at U Street Music Hall not long afterward but she returned Saturday for a second and bigger round at 9:30 Club. Kyle was there to shoot the show.

Ezra Furman may be one of the best musical secrets around. One part Bruce Springsteen and two equal parts Rock Horror Picture Show and Transformer-era Lou Reed (he’s even written a book on the subject), Ezra took the folk-tinged elements of his early records and expanded them over the past decade to include glam, ’50’s doo wop, and punk. He played this exciting blend of genres at Rock and Roll Hotel on Saturday.

Swedish heavy metal rockers Sabaton invaded The Fillmore Silver Spring recently in support of The Last Stand, their eighth studio album, published in 2016 via Nuclear Blast. Sabaton co-headlined with Kreator, a German thrash metal band.

Fleet Foxes will perform at The Anthem on Friday, May 18, for a visit on their sweeping tour in support of Crack-Up, their third studio album, published in 2017 via Nonesuch Records.
