Isaiah Rashad of Top Dawg Entertainment stopped by U Street Music Hall on Thursday to rap for an enthusiastic sold-out audience. His “Lil Sunny Tour” came to DC with special guests Lance Skiiiwalker and Jay IDK.

Maurice White was one of the mighty musicians who fell in 2016, marking a catastrophic year for music fans. But the founder of Earth, Wind & Fire already had retired from making music. His bandmates Philip Bailey, Verdine White, and Ralph Johnson carried on without him in 2013 to release a 20th full-length album, Now, Then & Forever.

With Maurice gone, Earth, Wind & Fire launch a tour of material old and new, starting at MGM National Harbor on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Aesthetic Perfection, aka Los Angeles producer Daniel Graves, released a new single, “Love Like Lies,” in December on his own label, Close to Human Music. Now he is on his first full US tour in three years, and he visits DC to perform at Ivy City Tavern — tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 7!

Former Stained frontman Aaron Lewis has gone country, and he visited The Fillmore Silver Spring on Wednesday in support of his second solo album, SINNER.

VOWWS may be a band dealing in dark synthpop, but the duo play with a light grace that makes them a quickly accessible and compelling watch.

Based in Los Angeles, VOWWS visited 9:30 Club in DC on Feb. 1 to open for England’s White Lies. (Read our Parklife DC review of White Lies at 9:30 Club.) Guitarist Matt and synthesist Rizz played eight tracks mostly from their debut full-length album The Great Sun, released in 2015 via Cleopatra Records.

White Lies began a very welcome return to the United States with date in DC at 9:30 Club on Wednesday, launching a brief US tour in support of their fourth album Friends, published last fall by BMG.

Colin Hay, the distinctive baritone voice behind Men at Work, has been solo for a long while now. The prolific singer-songwriter is about to release his 13th solo album, Fierce Mercy, on March 3 via Compass Records. Leading up to that, he will set upon a tour that includes two stops at The Birchmere Music Hall on Sunday, March 12, and Monday, March 13. (The Sunday date is already sold out.)

Falty & the Defects, four five cats from Baltimore, often come over to DC and play some old-school jazz and swing, getting down with crowds at bars and dancehalls.

Fort Lauderdale heavy metal band Nonpoint published their ninth studio album, The Poison Red, last summer via Spinefarm Records. The album was the first featuring new lead guitarist BC Kochmit from the prolific band. These guys like to stay busy, and they are hitting The Fillmore Silver Spring on Friday, Feb. 10, to open for Alter Bridge on The Last Hero Tour.

Post-hardcore band Falling in Reverse recently announced their next full-length album, Coming Home, to be released April 7 via Epitaph Records. Soon after the announcement, the band stopped by The Fillmore Silver Spring on Sunday to perform with Motionless in White.
