Don’t Miss: Depeche Mode @ Verizon Center, 9/7/17

Depeche Mode have launched the Global Spirit Tour in support of their new album, Spirit, published March 17 via Columbia Records. The iconic band are touring Europe currently, with their next stop in Athens, Greece, on May 17, and they are due to arrive in North America in Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 23.

Depeche Mode will hit DC for a show at Verizon Center on Thursday, Sept. 7, and some tickets are still available. If that weren’t exciting enough, they are bringing along psych rock quartet Warpaint to open.

One of the quintessential band configurations is the fantastic synthpop duo — usually (but not always) a man on synthesizers and a woman on vocals.

Adult. certainly have realized the power of this duality and distilled it to a primal form. Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus, husband and wife artists from Detroit, opened up their songwriting process to contributing artists who actually lived with them in their house for three weeks at a clip, resulting in their latest album Detroit House Guests, released via Mute Records on March 17. The duo visited DC9 on Thursday to perform some of those songs.

Inside Baltimore Soundstage on Tuesday night, people would randomly shout out to Captain Sensible, mimicking the call of his 1982 solo single “Wot.”

“He said Captain!” random members of the audience interjected at various points throughout a very crowded performance by The Damned, on tour to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary. While The Damned did not indulge the audience with the catchy earworm from Sensible, the UK punks did however smash through more than 90 minutes of great highlights.

If the “Modfather” hands you one of his all-time favorite albums and tells you to listen, it would behoove you to do so.

Paul Weller helped transform the sound of British rock during the 1970s with his former punk rock-new wave band The Jam and later with The Style Council in the 1980s. When he’s not recording new music on his own (his 13th solo album “A Kind of Revolution” drops May 12) or performing live, you can find him at a record store collecting vinyl like it’s his job. His musical appetite is varied and oftentimes obscure, but always on point, so it’s no surprise a critically acclaimed commercial flop like Odessey and Oracle (misspelling courtesy artist Terry Quirk) is at the top of the tastemaker’s list.
