SZA dropped Ctrl, her debut album, via Top Dawg Entertainment/RCA Records last year, and she undertook her first headlining tour, which finally made it to The Fillmore Silver Spring for a sold-out show on Monday. Chris Castillo was there to photograph the action.

Syd (aka Syd Tha Kid), frontwoman and producer for The Internet, released EP Always Never Home on Sept. 7 via Columbia Records. On Tuesday, she visited The Fillmore Silver Spring to play an engaging show, and Chris Castillo was there to take some pix. (By the way, Syd is at Baltimore Soundstage tonight. Go see that show!)

Good things come in small packages.
Standing just barely 5 feet tall, the Swedish singer-songwriter Yukimi Nagano is no exception. Last Tuesday and Wednesday night, Little Dragon fans in attendance at the 9:30 Club were transported to the future, and not just the weekend. Attendees accustomed to rock and roll gigs might also argue the neon kaleidoscope-colored lighting and the mobile-like twinkling backdrop also transformed the space into that of a rave. The soulful, electro pop quartet who formed in 1996 (while still in high school) played back-to-back shows promoting their much-anticipated fifth studio album, Season High. They added an additional performance following the quick sellout of their first night.

Little Dragon released their latest album Season High on May 5 via Loma Vista Records. The band are touring this summer with two dates at 9:30 Club! The first date sold out, but you can win tickets to go to the second date on Wednesday, Aug. 9, with Parklife DC.

Brother and sister musical duo Broods have come a long way in a short time! Hailing from New Zealand, Georgia and Caleb Nott released their debut album in 2014 and then toured extensively. Now they’ve returned with a second album, Conscious, and they are performing at the 9:30 Club on Monday, August 1.
The sophomore album, released June 24 via Capitol Records, boasts a few key collaborations, including a guest appearance by Tove Lo on “Freak of Nature” and co-writing from fellow New Zealander Lorde on “Heartlines,” the upcoming next single from the record.
The first single, released in April, is “Free,” a pounding R&B-tinged synth track. Watch the official music video for “Free” by Broods on YouTube:
Broods recorded the new album in Los Angeles and New Zealand with production assistance from Joel Little (Lorde, Ellie Goulding, Jarryd James) as well as Alex Hope (Troye Sivan) and Captain Cuts (Halsey, Tove Lo).
Speaking of Jarryd James, the Australian alt-R&B singer is opening for Broods on this tour! Last month, he released a new single called “1000x,” which features a guest appearance by Broods! Give it a listen on Soundcloud, and turn up early to see Jarryd:
