After weeks (months, really) of promising myself I’d see Luna Honey perform live — and missing several opportunities — the stars aligned and I finally got the chance to see this local DC band at Union Stage recently.

DC drone quartet Luna Honey released the band’s debut album, Peace Will Grind You Down, last year via Blight Records. They’ve been performing around town quite a bit since then, and their next show is at the Dew Drop Inn on Monday, Feb. 25.

With a scattershot of noise and an urgent, shadowy vocal, The Soft Moon launched the band’s recent show at the Rock and Roll Hotel, setting the tone for an evening of looking within to unearth pain and sorrow.

Luis Vasquez, better known as The Soft Moon, has spent the past year ruminating to the music of his latest album, Criminal, released nearly a year ago via Sacred Bones Records. He brings further dark contemplations to the Rock and Roll Hotel on Saturday, Jan. 19.

Working Order Records, home to DC’s own synthpop duo Technophobia, held its first Tiny Cat Dark Music Festival to celebrate “dark electronic music” over the weekend at Black Cat. By any measure, the first edition of Tiny Cat was a wild success, drawing 10 bands of remarkably different soundscapes together over two nights of immersive music.

Cold Cave, aka Los Angeles synthesist Wesley Eisold, released You & Me & Infinity, a new four-song EP, on June 1 via Heartworm Press. Cold Cave performs song from the new album, as well as other dark wave favorites, on the mainstage of Black Cat on Saturday, June 16.
