Following their game plan from their previous visit to The Birchmere in July 2018, the Cowboy Junkies went with a proven format for their recent show there. They’d play two sets. The first, slightly shorter set, would mostly consist of songs from their latest album, All That Reckoning, while the second set would comb their extensive catalog from more than 30 years together.

It was sweaty inside DC9 before the opener even took the stage, always a sure sign that the night would deliver its promise, or, at the least, help you burn some calories. Elbow-to-elbow in the 149-person, dimly-lit, second-level of the small 9th Street NW bar, fans—many of them authentic locals, including relatives of the band—were wise to get there early. After all, there won’t be too many more chances to catch Illiterate Light perform in a venue with such tight confines.

One dollar bills rained down on the crowd as Lil Baby hit the stage for a sold-out DC crowd recently at The Anthem along with opening act Rod Wave. Baby got the people bouncing from the minute he came out performing the Drake featured “Yes Indeed” followed by other older songs that helped establish him such as “My Dawg” and “Freestyle” while the money fell into the crowd.

If you had said the word “twiddle” to me three years ago, it would’ve meant virtually nothing. Twiddle your thumbs? I never really understood that anyways. Fast forward to present day — the moment I see the word “Twiddle” next to a date and location in DC, I’m ecstatic. That’s how I felt when I found out one of my favorite bands, Twiddle, was making a stop at the 9:30 Club. I couldn’t wait to see them again.
