One word constantly sifted through my mind recently while attending a Rachael & Vilray performance at The Miracle Theatre on Capitol Hill recently: vintage. The music, the gear from which it resonated, and the venue itself all exuded vintage qualities.

“This is my band, goddamit! We’re going to play the blues for you, all right?”

Adia Victoria isn’t the kind of musician, or woman, to mince words. The recent gig at DC9 Nightclub to open her Dope Queen Tour served notice to all of us in attendance we had better pay attention.

When I was a young lad in the early ’80s on the search for good music, Duran Duran struck as a revelation.
