Columbus indie pop group Doc Robinson will make a stop at DC9 Nightclub on Sept. 19. The stop comes almost exactly two months after the release of their debut full-length album, titled Deep End, which they are currently supporting on their US tour.

A little over a year ago, Crystal Castles released Amnesty (I), its fourth studio album, via Fiction Records and Casablanca Records. The record debuted the new team of founder Christopher Chartrand and vocalist Edith Frances, who have been touring since the album’s release. Crystal Castles arrive at 9:30 Club on Saturday, Sept. 30, and you can win tickets to go with Parklife DC.

Big Thief have recently released Capacity, their second full-length LP, on Saddle Creek, but the songs on the album belie a maturity and songcraft light years into the future. On Saturday, Big Thief played many of these new tunes to a sold-out crowd at the Black Cat.

Twenty years ago, a band of cellists formed in Finland and released an album of Metallica covers. Thus was born Apocalyptica, who celebrated the 20th anniversary of that debut album, Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, with a show at the Lincoln Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 9. Paivi, herself Finnish, took some pictures of her countrymen!

Depeche Mode opened a stunning show with a new song called “Going Backwards” in DC on Thursday. But nearly 18,000 people at Capital One Arena (formerly Verizon Center) found themselves leaping forwards with renewed love and appreciation for a band that commands unparalleled admiration from a deeply loyal following.

For their part, Depeche Mode did not let anyone down, surpassing expectations in a blockbuster concert, where charismatic frontman Dave Gahan in particular blazed through a 22-song set with a brightness in his eye that often glittered more than his shiny rockstar boots.
