Dr. Clock’s Nowhere Bar, a staunch supporter of independent electronic music, recently relocated its programming to Safari Lounge (4306 Georgia Ave. NW, DC). On June 21, Dr. Clock’s hosted an evening of post-punk/dark wave bands including DC’s own Social Station, a trio in the process of producing its second full-length album.

One of the great things about the annual Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, Germany, is the opportunity to chase down your favorite dark pop bands. Take for example Sixth June, the synthpop duo from Berlin, formed in 2007 by Laslo Antal and Lidija Andonov. Parklife DC photographer Paivi visited Wave Gotik Treffen on June 2-5 and caught the dark wavers in concert.

The Wave Gotik Treffen 2017 occurred in June 2-5 in Leipzig, Germany. More than 220 bands performed, and punk cabaret performer Amanda Palmer and Legendary Pink Dots frontman Edward Ka-Spel teamed up to serve as one of the headlining acts on June 2.

Parklife DC photographer Paivi was there and got these fantastic photographs.

Al B. …Sure Still Has It!

Blueprint. Foundation. Imprint. Artists like Chris Brown, Trey Songz, and Bryson Tiller enjoy the contemporary mesh of melodious R&B and heavy-hitting hip hop beats. However, this mesh and the idea behind it isn’t a new phenomenon. Deep R&B fans can recall how Al B. Sure!, heralded by the New Jack Swing subgenre, was a pioneer for the male singer to be suave and street. Al B. reminded us of this when he played at the Howard Theatre on June 28.
