Guitarist Julian Lage again teamed up with bassist Scott Colley and drummer Kenny Wolleson to release an album, Modern Lore, via Mack Avenue Records earlier this year. The Julian Lage Trio performs at Union Stage on Wednesday, Nov. 28!

There’s freedom in truth and a distinct energy to freedom. Singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez brought both to her recent show at DC’s Union Stage. The lively Canadian of Colombian descent performed to a sold-out audience on Nov. 18.

Our blogger Ari Strauss caught NO BS! Brass Band of Richmond, Virginia, earlier this year. His reaction: “Imagine legendary drummer and band leader Buddy Rich magically had a love child with funk icon George Clinton. The product would be NO BS! Brass Band.”

Sounds like a good show for the long Thanksgiving weekend, doesn’t it? We’re in luck! NO BS! Brass Band perform at the Black Cat on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Welcome to the 2018 Thrushie Awards! Parklife DC will name the best local band of the year with your input. Vote for the best DC band now through Dec. 1.

Now, we fully realize that there will be a lot of strong opinions about our list, and we readily confess that we could review even more local bands next year. But for now, our poll is limited to bands reviewed by Parklife DC in the last year. As this is our inaugural year for the Thrushie Awards, we sought to keep this list short.

Guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady formed blues band Hot Tuna in 1969, and they are still going strong! At the 2016 Grammy Awards, Jorma and Jack received Lifetime Achievement Awards, and the band released an album as recently as 2011 with Steady as She Goes.

Hot Tuna performs an acoustic evening at City Winery on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Los Campesinos! are celebrating 10 years of music with a tour that made its last stop at the Black Cat this past Saturday night.  Devoted fans started lining up over an hour before doors to get a good spot up front for this show.  The audience members were treated to an outstanding performance that evening!  Shantel Breen was up front to enjoy the show.

Twenty-two-year-old alternative hip-hop artist Lauren Sanderson performed to a room of exuberant young fans over the weekend at the Rock and Roll Hotel. She recently signed a record deal with Epic Records, and she is touring in support of her recent EP release, Don’t Panic.
