As soon as I walked into Warner Theatre on Saturday, it was clear that Gov’t Mule has a very passionate following. It’s no surprise, considering they have been around since 1994 and were formed as a side project from The Allman Brothers. It was also clear that there is a pretty specific audience that this music appeals to.

Editors Note: This event was originally scheduled for May 25, but we have moved it to June 8. On May 25, we will present an evening of music dedicated to bands from Manchester in solidarity with the city after this week’s tragedy.

For the last several years, an ’80s festival called Retro Futura has presented some of our favorite artists, including Howard Jones, The English Beat, Modern English, Men Without Hats, Katrina (of The Waves), Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins, Midge Ure, and many others.

We’ll celebrate the ’80s festival circuit with these artists and others, alongside your requests, at the next edition of Careless Memories: A New Wave Party, this Thursday, May 25.

Charivari, according to Wikipedia, is “a folk custom in which the community gives a noisy, discordant mock serenade, frequently with pounding on pots and pans.” “Shari Vari” is also an electronic song from 1982 by A Number of Names, later covered by Detroit synth duo Adult.

Most importantly, Shari Vari is the nom du guerre of a Philadelphia musician who tours as Void Vision, and Void Vision opened for Adult. (somehow completing a circle) at DC9 on Thursday, May 11, in a synth show destined to please electronic enthusiasts of all stripes. Void Vision certainly wasn’t “a noisy, discordant mock serenade,” however! Certainly, just the opposite — deep, affecting, and melodic. (Hey, check out our review of Adult. while you’re here.)

There’s a huge party going down at Echostage on Friday, May 19, called MEGA DC, featuring NGHTMRE with Ookay, Rickyxsan, Savage Patch, and Rawle Night Long!

That’s an action-packed line-up, but let’s talk a bit about Ookay, the young house and trap producer from San Diego.
