You might best remember Samantha Ronson, sister to super producer Mark, as one of the buzziest DJs of the last decade.
Lately, Samantha has been focusing on songwriting and building a band — and that band, Ocean Park Standoff, appears at DC9 on Friday, Feb. 24, prior to releasing their self-titled debut EP on March 3 via Hollywood Records.

The seductive power of Teddy Pendergrass. The gospel grit of Patti Labelle. The vocal command of Jill Scott. These Philadelphia R&B influences form the soulful foundation of Jazmine Sullivan. The nine-time Grammy-nominated artist graced The Fillmore Silver Spring with the tone of less is more, demonstrating the power, range, and agility of her voice last Tuesday.

America has a lot to thank Sweden for. The Scandinavian land across the Atlantic to the northeast brought us everything from the modern-day zipper and the three-point seatbelt to the TetraPak and ABBA. The neutral European country also introduced us to the dream pop outfit known as The Radio Dept. The band performed to a crowded house at the Black Cat in Washington, D.C. this past Wednesday in support of their new album “Running Out of Love.” It’s the fourth studio album release and their first LP since 2010’s “Clinging to a Scheme.”

Andrew Savage zipped into DC from Los Angeles, fresh from the Grammy Awards, where he was nominated for Best Recording Package for his band Parquet Courts’ fifth album, Human Performance.
The artist for David Bowie’s Blackstar album took that award, but Andrew was upbeat about it. “I won,” he quipped to a large crowd at 9:30 Club on Monday. “The director of The Recording Academy told us we were all winners. That sounds pretty official to me.”
