If Hank Williams were alive today, he’d be 94 years old. It’s unlikely he’d still be making music, and, even if he were, he probably wouldn’t sound very much like the young Hank Williams. On Wednesday evening, the closest you could get to a vintage Hank Williams show was seeing Wayne “The Train” Hancock perform his style of traditional country at DC’s City Winery.

Wayne “The Train” Hancock released Slingin’ Rhythm, his most recent album, via Bloodshot Records in 2016. He’s coming around to play his catalog at City Winery on Wednesday, Sept. 5, and there’s only a handful of tickets remaining!

I had a personal reason for attending and photographing the show of Alejandro Escovedo and Joe Ely recently at the City Winery in Washington, DC, I knew them in the ole days of the ’70s.

Shooter Jennings brought his raucous brand of outlaw country music to DC on Wednesday, rocking the house at City Winery.
He’s spitting image of his daddy, the legendary Waylon Jennings, right down to the prominent proboscis, albeit carrying a more slender figure. Touring behind his new album, Shooter, he’s picking up the torch his father carried, turning his back on Nashville and Hollywood, making music his way, as he expressed in the song “Solid Country Gold/The Outsider.”

Shooter, singer-songwriter Waylon Albright “Shooter” Jennings’ eponymous album, arrived at music retailers and streaming services via Low Country Sound and Elektra Records on Aug. 10. Shooter Jennings will bring his Bound Ta Git Down Tour to the City Winery on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Genre-busting singer-songwriter Joe Ely has released a lot of material — solo and as a member of The Flatlanders and Los Super Seven — since his 1977 self-titled debut album. The legendary guitar slinger will perform with the equally eclectic Alejandro Escovedo at City Winery in DC on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
