The THE BAND Band, a critically acclaimed tribute band of The Band, turned in a solid performance at DC’s City Winery on Saturday, performing many of the seminal hits of The Band’s legendary catalog, including “Ophelia,” “Up On Cripple Creek,” “Stage Fright,” “It Makes No Difference,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” and this photographer’s personal favorite, “The Weight.” The setlist also included a couple of Bob Dylan tunes, done in recognition of The Band’s time as Dylan’s backing band.

Music Park: Patty Smyth and Scandal @ City Winery — 5/5/18

Guitarist Zack Smith was looking to form a band in New York City in 1981, and he was persistent enough to track down vocalist Patty Smyth, who was working in a steakhouse at the time.

And so the band Scandal came together to record a self-titled EP and eventually a full album, Warrior, producing memorable ’80s hits like “Goodbye to You” and “The Warrior.” Patty sang those songs and more with a new configuration of Scandal, which still also includes original member Keith Mack on guitar, at City Winery on Saturday.
