The City of New Orleans celebrates its 300th Anniversary in 2018. To celebrate his hometown’s tricentennial, its rich cultural heritage, and its unique flavor of music, Trombone Shorty handpicked an all-star line-up of Crescent City musicians to tour the nation as Trombone Shorty’s Voodoo Threauxdown. The revue brought the spirit and the sound of New Orleans to Wolf Trap on Friday.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band played a high-energy, get-out-of-your-seat and dance-inspiring set Friday at Wolf Trap. The band is one-fourth of the Trombone Shorty Voodoo Threauxdown tour along with Trombone Shorty, Galactic, and New Breed Jazz Band.

Fresh off a European tour with Bonnie Raitt’s band, Grammy Award winner and New Orleans funkmaster Jon Cleary paid a visit to The Soundry in Columbia, Maryland, recently to deliver a smokin’ hot, 90-minute R&B/funk/soul performance. Jon is currently touring in support his newest album, Dyna-Mite, published by Thirty Tigers in July.

Formed in New Orleans in 2007, the eight-man roots band called The Revivalists recently released a new single, “All My Friends,” and they will soon start a tour. The Revivalists will play at Wolf Trap on Sunday, Aug. 19.

New Orleans’ Big Sam’s Funky Nation brought the NOLA funk to The Hamilton Live on Saturday, and the audience, all on their feet and grooving, loved it!

Big Sam’s Funky Nation dropped Songs in the Key of Funk, the band’s latest album, on May. Now, the funky jazz collective from New Orleans performs at The Hamilton Live on Saturday, June 23.

The music of Rising Appalachia seems intent on taking you to places. Places that are off the main roads, overgrown with kudzu, under the lazy glow of june bugs rising from beneath the porch swing. Their regional affiliations are alluded to in the band’s name, and as their set slowly unfolded recently at the 930 Club, they took the audience on a tour of the hazy south east.

Rising Appalachia, the folk band lead by sisters Chloe Smith and Leah Song, recently released “Resilient,” an uplifting song for today. The band performs that song and others at 9:30 Club on Friday, May 25.

The nascent City Winery in DC’s Ivy City is an intimate 300-seat cabaret-style performance space that delivers a high-end combination of culinary and cultural experiences to patrons who are passionate about sharing wine, music, and culinary arts.
That is until New Orleans-based Cowboy Mouth came to town over the weekend, and all that went shit.

New Orleans singer-songwriter Luke Winslow-King mixes Mississippi delta blues, folk, jazz, and roots rock on his new album, Blue Mesa, due this Friday, May 11, via Bloodshot Records. On the previous night, Luke performs at Pearl Street Warehouse on Thursday, May 10.
