Galactic will release Already Ready Already on Feb 8 via their own Tchoup-Zilla Records through Thirty Tigers. Soon after, the collective appear for two nights at 9:30 Club, and you can win tickets to go to the first of those nights on Friday, Feb. 15.

I was looking forward to a good show to kick off 2019 — and Leyla McCalla’s scheduled performance at The Hamilton Live seemed like just the ticket. What I experienced though was far from merely “good.” Instead, Leyla’s performance was mesmerizing, sensual, joyous, and exquisite… adjectives that describe far more accurately her unique blend of traditional Creole, Cajun, and Haitian music (with American folk and gospel thrown into the mix as well).

New Orleans rockers The Revivalists kicked off their Take Good Care Tour on Friday at The Anthem. The 12-week tour supports their new album, Take Good Care, which was released last year via Loma Vista Recordings.

Trombone Shorty Heats Up New Years Eve at The Anthem

With vibrant notes, Trombone Shorty blasted an energetic and enthusiastic crowd at The Anthem into the New Year as the clock struck 2019.

On Jan. 25, Leyla McCalla will release The Capitalist Blues, her third studio album, via PIAS. On the road to that release, the singer-songwriter will bring her protest songs to The Hamilton Live on Friday, Jan. 11.

In support of art pop diva Kimbra, Dawn opened the show recently at the Sixth & I Synagogue. This venue was perfect for this special tour, and listening to Dawn in this intimate space made it even better.

On the heels of a DK3 Danity Kane reunion tour, DAWN (formerly known as Dawn Richard) will release a new album, titled New Breed, on Jan. 25 via Local Action/Our Dawn Entertainment. Prior to that, she will drop by Sixth & I as opener for Kimbra on Thursday, Dec. 6, in an intimate solo show.

Every Sunday, around sunset, my emotional slide into a pre-work week slump begins, but not this past weekend. This Sunday, I took a trip to the Filene Center at Wolf Trap to catch The Revivalists. The 8-piece band from New Orleans provided a heavy dose of high-energy alt-rock that was the perfect cure for the Sunday blues.
